Bringing an airport terminal to life for the big screen
One of the joys of Mission: Impossible is the larger-than-life action sequences – and the even more impressive locations they take place in. In one scene, the new Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport – takes centre stage. But as the terminal was still in construction when the cast and crew arrived in 2021, the production team had the challenge of making the terminal look like one that was fully functioning.
To achieve authenticity, the team researched real international airports, with the aim to ensure the terminal in MI7 felt genuine and the signage was carefully considered to enhance the overall aesthetic.
Working on a movie like Dead Reckoning (Part 1) gave us such a buzz and, as always, we wanted to deliver the best possible results. By incorporating familiar details and staying true to the essence of a real airport, we were able to create an authentic working airport terminal, complete with flight information, wayfinding, identifying amenities and airport advertising to elevate the film's visual impact.
